Ashton Burke is a legendary adventurer who has spent the past ten years roaming the globe to forget the girl he left behind. His devil-may-care life is interrupted when he's hired to rescue his brother's kidnapped fiancée. Too late, he discovers she is none other than Clarinda Cardew, the very same girl who made off with his jaded heart a decade ago.
The last thing Clarinda wants is to be trapped in a palace of sensual delights with the man whose irresistible kisses still haunt her sleepless nights. Although he vows he is only doing his job, Clarinda quickly realizes that allowing Ashton to rescue her may put her yearning heart in even greater peril. Ms. Medeiros definitely brought her A game to her newest release! Packed with lovable characters, charming subplots, sparkling dialogue, and genuine humor, this book is a delight from the first page to the last. You'll want to read it again--immediately! The hero and heroine have genuine chemistry and it shows with every scene that Ms. Medeiros brings to life. It reminded me a bit of a screwball comedy--what with some of the hilarious scenes and dialogue, but it also had the dark moments and emotional depth one wants from their romance novels. Well done, Ms. Medeiros! Well done!Product details

The Pleasure of Your Kiss The Burke Brothers Book 1 edition by Teresa Medeiros Romance eBooks Reviews
I usually love reading Ms. Medeiros' books, and I definitely have to give her points for originality in this one. However, I felt there was too much focus on trying to make this story different, that the chemistry between the hero and heroine fell a little flat... at least for me it did. I didn't find the two main characters to be very likable and it was very hard to empathize with either of them until the very end. At that point, it was a little too late. I think part of the problem is that the main characters already had a history and we're supposed to just swallow and accept their love/hate relationship. Only through a series of flashbacks in the book do we get a glimpse of how it got to that point, which made it hard to see any real character development because it felt so scattered. I would have preferred to have read their story from the beginning because there was just so much involved, yet it felt like Ms. Medeiros just breezed through it using the flashbacks or having the characters recount the events to each other. I personally think it would have made for a better story. Taking the journey with the characters is better than just reading about it after it all happens.
This book was really, really, really hard to rate. I enjoyed so many aspects of this story and I disliked so many aspects of the storyline and characters.
I'm a sucker for the drawn out, find out the secret of what went wrong with the star crossed lovers (Ashton and Clarinda), from each characters perspective. And I did like that. The secondary charcters were fun and added to the story as well, but...
See, I can't describe it unless I give out spoilers - which I'm not into. It's a little convoluted and it could just be a preference thing. I can tell you that Max (the hero's brother and the heroine's fiance) is not as good a guy as he seems - so don't feel sorry for him as you read.
So if you've liked Teresa Medeiros in the past, read this book - she is a great author. If you are thinking of reading Teresa Medeiros for the first time, maybe don't start with this book. Either way, it's a solid read, just not a keeper.
This book is what I love about Historical Romance. The characters were so wonderful. Full of energy. I just love it when the H and h love each other but they are so hard headed sometimes to realize it. It was full of adventure..and humor..and just the right amount of sexiness. One of my favorite books and I just love the characters. This is a book that I would enjoy reading again.
Good
Absolutely love Teresa Medeiros' older stuff and this has the feel of some of her older books. Great read!
I hate writing this, I really do! I adore Ms. Medeiros's writing I truly do but this is the first book in years I had to force myself to finish! First I will be honest, the whole harem fantasy thing is not my thing, maybe that's it! I want to make excuses for why this hurt so much to read. One aspect, for this reader, was it was too modern, I don't mind butchering a culture for fantasy and erotic interest but the whole thought that this woman of the 18th Century would so easily fall into the clever harem girl waiting to outsmart her fate was just too much. The language just wasn't true, the chipper sexy siren was too forced and let's face it fake. In fact now that I think of it I didn't like this heroine....there I said it.
There is a small secondary story that thank heavens captured my interest, and Max has a future as a tortured hero. These two people, the main characters, I just didn't care about, not until the end then it was too late. Frankly you could have cut out the whole harem scenes with the and had a decent story.
Sorry but this is just how I felt. I am sure if you love this sort of fantasy you will enjoy this book, but man if you don't save yourself for Max's story. Ms.M still has it, this just wasn't my thing and it certainly didn't sell it on being my thing.
I love Teresa Medeiros. Some of her earlier novels are among my all-time favorites. I wonder if my tastes have changed, or if she phoned this one in. The Pleasure of Your Kiss dragged and didn't have the humorous fairy tale quality that made her past work so enchanting and funny. The one-liners felt forced. The plot was almost non-existent and it was ridiculous to think a woman who had been enslaved by Corsairs, sold in a slave market, and spent weeks and weeks in a harem owned by a Sultan who had the hots for her, hadn't been defiled in some manner.
I didn't like the hero much. I couldn't understand why she still cared about him given the circumstances of their past. I liked Max much better and had a problem with her dumping him in the end when he loved her steadfastly all her life and never mistreated or abandoned her. The massage scene dragged on and I found my mind wandering. I'm giving this one three stars only because I adore Teresa Medeiros and cannot bear to give her less based on the many hours of enjoyment her books have given me in the past. Hopefully, she got her groove back with this one and her next will measure up to her usual high standards. Every author misses once in a while, right? I'll consider this her one miss and I look forward to buying and reading the sequel about Max.
The one shining light in the book for me was Poppy's romance with "Frankie" Farouk... I wish Medeiros had written the book about them and made Ashton and Clarinda into supporting characters.
